Homeless Youth Take the Stage

The Graduation Ceremony for this semester's theatre and education program for homeless chldren was a huge success! The children performed stories they had written for a large audience of over 60 people from our community. Fifty-five children from four transitional housing facilities worked all semester with Artistic Director Thurman E. Scott and their volunteer mentors from the community. They wrote stories expressing their visions for the future and drew pictures that reflected their own creative and unique dreams for the world. This semester's theme was Education, and each of the children shared with the audience how their plans for education will help them build a brighter future for themselves and the world around them. The Builders of the New World is the Actors Theatre Workshop's groundbreaking theatre and education program for homeless children that improves reading, writing, and presentational skills, instills discipline and self-esteem, and inspires the children to make choices today to achieve educational success tomorrow. Using a unique approach to education, BNW endows its young members with the power to change their lives.

New Six-Session Intensive Acting Classes on Sundays at ATW

As the current six-session intensive class draws to a close, the students are astounded by the profound growth and development they have experienced studying with Mr. Scott these past weeks. With new classes starting September 24, the six-session intensive is a rare opportunity for you to study directly with Artistic Director Thurman E. Scott in an intensive six-session acting class that serves as an introduction to Mr. Scott's original creative acting technique. This is a wonderful opportunity for professional actors who wish to deepen their craft, and beginners who are interested in exploring and developing their creativity. The class helps students to begin to express their unique talent, open up their imagination and emotional expression, and develop a powerful presence and creative intelligence. The six classes are conveniently held on Sundays and are taught in The Actors Theatre Workshop's professional and intimate theatre at 145 W. 28th Street. To be considered for the fall session apply online ASAP, or to learn more go to http://www.actorstheatreworkshop.com or call (212) 947-1386 x 0.
